The modern Microlight aircraft was developed as an answer for the limitations experienced by hang glider pilots in being restricted to mountain and cliff top sites for taking off and landing. These attractive craft are flown using a single control bar off an A frame connected directly to the wing, and when on the ground are steered much the same as a child's 3 wheel tricycle so soon became known as "trikes" . The 3 axis aircraft has no ailerons or elevators so control cables, wires and pulleys are minimal.
In 1997 a group of trike enthusiasts met to form a 'club for trike
pilots and their family / friends' for the purpose of getting together
with other pilots to go flying.
Now known as the SOUTHERN MICROLIGHT
CLUB OF VICTORIA INC. the group meets at 7 pm every second Tuesday
of the month for a meal in the Bistro of The Manningham Club,
1 Thompsons Road, Bulleen 3101,
with the meeting following at 8pm.
Various FLY / DRIVE activities
are held one weekend per month.
Anyone already involved in "triking",
or interested in learning more of the sport is invited to contact
